social media

quality over quantity, always

If there’s anything I’ve learned in over seven years of social media marketing, it’s the value of creating quality content that speaks directly to an audience’s interest or need. From a vintage store making sales through DMs to cultural institutions inviting visitors to expand their worldviews, my experience has taught me to develop thoughtful editorial calendars with striking, clear visuals. Paired with consistent audience interaction and collaborations, social media channels are a hub for storytelling and connection.

on theme

One sentiment that I hold is the idea that “the feed is sacred.” Even spontaneous posts that respond to the ever-flowing current of content can be on-brand and personalized to fit an organization’s tone. By building strong visual stories, it strengthens brand recognition and allows a platform to utilize key elements of branding. Further, a clean feed shows intentionality and attention-to-detail.

meeting the moment

A challenging aspect of social media marketing is keeping up with trends and cultural moments while staying true to the brand you’re representing. It’s cool to be funny, when you can, and it’s honorable to be a voice, when you can.

When BeReal launched in 2022, I got creative with Balboa Park’s most frequent visitors, the beloved squirrels, and its most iconic architectural structure, the California Tower. The Wes Anderson aesthetic trend was a hit in 2023, which I paired with Star Wars Day on May the 4th to create a Reel that gathered over 16K views than average for Balboa Park Explorer.

In the ever-tepid cultural climate of 2025, it was important that Mingei continue to emphasize its position of being a welcoming space for all. When we heard of the IMLS budget cut threats, we quickly jumped into the conversation to raise awareness and action from multiple platforms.

story time

Instagram and Facebook stories are a great way to stay top-of-mind and have fun with content. Although their fundamental purpose is to be temporary content, I appreciate a well-designed story post. Again, it shows that time and effort are put into a social media presence.

Specifically with Bad Madge & Co., the business owner saw an increase in sales when our Instagram stories featured new items in colorful displays and collections.

video village

As a wannabe cinematographer, video creation is one of my favorite parts of working in social media. Short-form video offers a great opportunity to showcase a lot of content in a short window—a glimpse into a new experience or a chance to showcase details that photos alone can’t capture.

“Tuck and Roll: The Art of Armadillos” brings fun to our free Entry Level cases by showcasing armadillo figures from Mingei’s permanent collection! Featuring works made by artisans across the Americas, this playful installation emphasizes how these extraordinary creatures have delighted people’s imagination. “Tuck and Roll” is now on view through January 11.
